Campbell University’s Teaching Scholars Academy is a scholarship program designed to inspire the teacher leaders of the future.
Students enrolled in the Academy stand out as problem-solvers and innovators with compassion who possess a sense of dedication to the profession and service to others.
The focus of the Academy is to promote service and emphasize the need for teachers in rural, underserved areas of North Carolina.
Selection criteria
- Strong desire to make a difference through teaching
- Minimum GPA: 3.5
- Minimum ACT & SAT scores: 24 and 1170
- A 500-word essay themed “Why I Want to Teach”
- Interview
Benefits
- Teaching Academy Scholars are awarded $8,500 per year with no “payback” provisions or requirements. Scholars can major in any area of education with teacher licensure.
*Awards remain in effect for the four years of undergraduate education, provided the student continues to be academically eligible while enrolled full-time in the Professional Education Program - Service and leadership initiatives

Dates to Remember
- February 1, 2024 – Early application window opens.
- April 1, 2024 – The application window closes.
- April 15, 2024 – Deadline to submit supplemental materials (test scores (if applicable), and letters of recommendation, volunteer hours, and essay) to hampton-jones@campbell.edu.
- April 15-18, 2024 – Online and face to face Interviews
- April 22-26, 2024 – Applications will scored
- May 1-7, 2024 – Letters are mailed to all applicants (this is a competitive program and up to 10 students will be invited to the Teaching Scholars Academy). Dependent upon the timeline that students submit information – a decision can be made before the stated dates.
